Three Ways to Know If You are Being Led by The Spirit or Your Soul

Can you remember playing 'follow the leader' in school?  That was always such a fun game, and I loved when it was my turn to lead the line!  Looking back and seeing everyone do as I had just done was really funny to me.  It was also a lot of fun to be one of the followers.  The key to the game was to intently watch the leader because you never knew what he or she would do next.  Who knew all these years later that we would still be playing 'follow the leader'!  The fact of the matter is that each and every one of us is being led right now...the question is, by whom?

Before Christ, we are all led by own flesh or our souls, but once we are born-again, that should change.  We should be led by The Spirit of God.  The problem is that sometimes our flesh or our souls still get in the way.  They just refuse to let Holy Spirit lead!  Here are three ways to know if you are being led by The Spirit or your soul:

1.  Perceptions

Your Soul causes you to feel judged, so you avoid people and isolate yourself.

The Spirit allows you to feel free, so you refuse to be judged because of the finished work of Jesus Christ.

Scripture:  Romans 8:1-2 (ERV) So now anyone who is in Christ Jesus is not judged guilty. That is because in Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit that brings life made you free. It made you free from the law that brings sin and death.

2.  Thoughts

Your Soul causes you to desire what you want; your mind is easily changed based upon what you are feeling.

Your Spirit guides you in setting your mind on what the Spirit desires.

Scripture:  Romans 8:5 (ERV)   People who live following their sinful selves think only about what they want. But those who live following the Spirit are thinking about what the Spirit wants them to do.

3. Actions

Your Soul satisfies the desires of your flesh; your emotions convince you that you what is best.

Your Spirit leads you to gratify the desires of the Spirit.

Scripture:  Galatians 5:16 (ERV) So I tell you, live the way the Spirit leads you. Then you will not do the evil things your sinful self wants.

It is not always easy, but when your perceptions, thoughts, and actions are submitted to God then you will always be led by The Spirit.  Holy Spirit is waiting and willing to lead you into all truth.  Let Him heal your soul!

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, I command my soul to submit to your Spirit today.  Holy Spirit, lead me into all truth.  In Jesus' Name, Amen.
