17 Lies the Enemy Whispers to Cause Jealousy in Your Heart

When referencing those who are jealous, we often joke using phrases like ‘green with envy’ or ‘green-eyed monster’, but jealousy can be a serious struggle.  Jealousy may not always seem like a big deal, but if one is not careful, it can destroy contentment and self-confidence.  

Satan, also known as, the accuser of the brethren, constantly looks for ways to cause trouble in our lives.  One of those ways is by stirring up jealousy in our hearts and causing division.  1 Peter 5:8 (NIV) warns be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.  Satan is so tricky that he will whisper lies to anyone who will listen and stealthily plant seeds of jealousy.  Those lies may sound like:

1. Your life is a mess; you should live more like him/her.
2. Why aren't you his/her size?
3. Why don't you look like that?
4. What is wrong with you?
5. No wonder you're alone.
6. He/she has such a better personality.
7. You aren't good enough.
8. You can't get yourself together and that is why no one likes you.
9. You aren't like the other moms.
10. You aren't as cool as the other dads.
11. You just aren't a good wife.
12. What man can't provide for his family?
13. You are the worst one on the team.
14. He/she deserves the promotion; you do not.
15. You aren't marriage material.  
16. You are so difficult; that's why no one wants to be around you.
17. You are so unlovable.

One thing is for sure, we do not have to listen to those lies, and we certainly do not have to believe them!  Later this week, we will discuss the consequences of believing the lies and how we can get rid of jealousy if it has already snuck in.   Let Him heal your soul!
