Have you ever met someone and not really been that fond of him/her, but later became great friends once you really got to know them?  That is always an interesting situation.  Why does that happen?  Is it because the person drastically changed from the first encounter or perhaps we just judged too quickly?  We can really miss out on great relationships by making judgments based on preconceived notions. 

When we left off the other day on Part I, Jesus had just rode into the city and headed straight for the Temple.  Once He arrived, He spent the next several days teaching there.  All of the people there were amazed at His teachings.  All except the chief priests and elders.  They were not impressed.  In fact, they were quite annoyed.  Jesus did not fit their expectations.  He was not at all what they were hoping for.  So, they challenged Him every chance they got.  As He taught in the Temple, they plotted and tried to trap Him with tricky questions.  They were unsuccessful every single time.  I am sure that made them even more upset.  The Gospels record the events in great detail:

They finally had had enough and decided that they needed a plan to get arrest and kill Jesus.  The question is if they had hope in God and hope in His law then why did they miss the hope that Jesus was offering right there in the Temple?  Why did their hardened hearts refuse to believe that He was the Son of God?  

In a stubborn attempt to be right, they misconceived the Redeemer standing right before them.  

Before we begin to shake our heads at those chief priests and elders, let's pause and examine our own hearts during this Holy Week.  Are we hopeful and open to what Jesus is teaching us in this season or are we misconceiving what He is doing and saying in our lives?  Let's choose to hope in Him and be receptive to His teachings today.  Let Him heal your soul!
