Blog Series: Identity (Week 1)
Who are you? Do you
find that question difficult to answer? Think
about your identity for a moment. There are
some things that uniquely make you who you are.
The definition* of identity is character as to who a person is; the
sense of self. Your background, your
experiences, and your stories all shape who you are and who you have become.
If you have accepted Jesus into your life then you have a
spiritual identity as well. Whether you
have a strong understanding of who you are or not, God wants us to confidently
know who we are in Christ.
Over the next eight weeks, we will take time together to
uncover exactly who we are in Christ!
God does not want us to live defeated and unproductive lives. He desires for us to know who we are and then
live victoriously!
Each week, we will unpack a powerful ‘I Am’ statement that
reveals our identity in Christ. We will
begin with this one:
I am forgiven!
We spend our entire lives trying to discover who we
are. While it may take a lifetime to
develop and grow into whom God created us to be, it should not take us as much time
to articulate who God said that we are.
Sometimes we have a hard time forgiving ourselves for the
wrong we have done in the past. Other
times, people around us will try to hold things over our heads. We end up going through life feeling guilt
and defeated, but that is a trick of the enemy.
You need to hold your head up and know that you are forgiven.
Ephesians 1:7 (NIV) says in
him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in
accordance with the riches of God’s grace.
Simply put, it is through the Blood of Jesus that we are
forgiven!
You and I can walk into our destinies with our head held up
because we are not condemned. Shake all
of the fear, doubt, guilt, and regret right off! Once you identify yourself as forgiven, you
are able to live free. You will not
allow others to dictate your life because you have been forgiven by God. Sister, recognize your identity in
Christ: you are forgiven. Let Him heal your soul!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, We thank you for your love
and forgiven. Help us to recognize who
we are in you and accept this gift of forgiveness. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
I really needed to hear that
